Frequently Asked Questions
How do we reserve our date and time for our Portrait Session or Wedding?
-After we have gone over the details of your session and your ready to schedule with me, I require $50 non refundable retainer (which goes towards your total balance) and a signed portrait agreement. Once those are both completed your session date and time will be on the calendar!
-For Weddings, please contact me to schedule a time to meet at your favorite place for coffee/tea or place to eat to discuss all the details of your wedding day and we will go from there!
How long before we receive our photos from our Portrait session or Wedding?
-From the date of your session you will receive your gallery 2-3 weeks depending upon the busy season. – For Weddings you will receive your USB with your images within 8-10 weeks, it does depend on how busy that time of year is. 🙂
Where will the photos be taken? Do you have a Studio?
-I shoot sessions all on location/outdoors that will fit what you are envisioning for your session, if there’s somewhere new you’d like to go to please let me know and I’ll do my best to fit what your looking for.
-I do not have a studio at this time.
What should I bring to our session?
-If you are wanting any sort of props you have at home or bought feel free to bring them to use at your session. Dress accordingly to the weather. In the hot summer days I suggest bringing bug spray especially if you have little ones. For small children I suggest bringing some snacks, drinks and some toys to keep them happy! 🙂 Bringing fur baby? No problem make sure you arrive a little before so they can walk around and let some energy out, bring treats and their favorite toy.
What should We/I wear to our session?
-I suggest wearing something that will make you feel comfortable with complimenting layers, and colors. I would avoid logo t-shirts, distracting patterns and bright neon colors. If you’d like to have some ideas to go off of to create your own unique that suits you, CLICK HERE.
I have a family member that is handicap can that be accommodated for a session?
-Yes of course! I have worked with many clients who have a family member who use wheelchairs or any other health concern and I have some locations I can suggest that we can go to that will accommodate you!
Can we bring our dogs to our session?
-Yes of course! Family is Family, whether they are two legged humans or 4 legged fur babies. I just suggest bringing their leash and if they are well trained off the leash for a few photos we can definitely make that happen 🙂 I have worked with 4 pups for a family photo before and if they have a favorite toy that catches their attention feel free to bring it to use at your session. Just note that some locations don’t allow pets when we discuss locations.
Will we get a Print Release?
-Yes you’ll receive a Print Release in your email after i deliver your gallery, and you can print anywhere you wish! 🙂
Do you Travel?
-Yes I love to travel anywhere within the state of Colorado. 30 minute sessions will only be available within Colorado Springs. All other packages include travel – this means weddings too! 😉
Do I have to order prints through you?
-I highly recommend ordering your prints through me to ensure the quality of your images which you can also order through your online gallery. In the print release there is a recommendation of where to print your photos if you choose to not print with me.
What equipment do you use?
-I use a Canon 5D Mark iii and Canon 6D and lenses I use for portrait sessions or weddings: 35mm 1.8, 40mm 2.8, 50mm 1.8., 85mm 1.8 , two speed lights & light stands.
What is the “Online Gallery” you mention in your portrait packages?
-The online gallery is a password protected gallery for you to preview your images and once you have selected your favorites a new gallery will be given to you with the High Resolution images and a pin number for you to download directly to your computer. 🙂 It’s easy peasy!
What forms of payment do you accept?
-Shayla Velazquez Photography accepts Square, Credit/Debit Cards, Checks & Cash. If paying with cash or check you will receive a receipt for you to keep for your records.
How far in advance should we schedule our session or Wedding?
-The sooner you have an allotted time frame for when you’d like to schedule your session the better! All of my clients schedule anywhere between 4-8 weeks in advance to ensure their session date and time is available before the busy holiday season rolls in.
-Weddings are booking anywhere from 6 months-12 months in advance but don’t worry if your running behind message me and see if I’m available for your wedding date!
What if I lose my images or missed the timeframe to download my digital images from the online gallery?
-I highly recommend once you have downloaded your images to print them! It’s so much more timeless when you have them printed instead of sitting on a CD or computer since those may crash or fail at any time.
-I also recommend creating a copy of your images to save on another computer and/or program such as DropBox, Amazon, Crashplan or Google Drive etc. If you missed the timeframe of your gallery it will be $25 fee for portrait sessions or $50 fee for weddings to have them available online again. (This is also stated within the portrait & wedding agreement you sign when booking.)
How do I back up my images?
-I suggest creating an additional copy of your images to save on another computer or other programs such as DropBox, Amazon, Crashplan or Google Drive that are some options. I’m sure there’s many more options as well for back up systems!
Where do you suggest we print our images ?
I recommend printing through your gallery with me of course for the best quality but if you’d like to print elsewhere I recommend www.mpix.com, or Sam’s Club & once you have your images uploaded there be sure to select “DO NOT AUTO CORRECT” for all your images otherwise they won’t look the way I had post processed them.
Where can I view your most recent work?
When is the Best time of day to schedule our session?
Sunrise & about 2 hours before sunset (golden hour).
