Wedgewood Black Forest Colorado Wedding | Daisy and Dominick Tapia

Daisy and Dominick’s Colorado story: We both worked at a dealership here in the Springs. We are HUGE car people. We love cars, we love racing cars, etc. So I had found out he had the same car as I do which is a rarity! He had a 1988 Crx and I had a 1989 Crx. I went down to his end of the dealership one day to find it sitting there so I walked around it and took a few pictures out of excitement for just seeing another like mine. I found out later it was his and we started talking from there!

Dominick actually proposed in our kitchen a few days after our 3rd anniversary. The ring he had ordered didn’t come in on time so he couldn’t do it on the day he intended. He welded together a little figurine that looks like a little guy holding a heart. It’s made out of all car parts and the main part is a piston from the first motor that we built together. He made that figure’s head open up and that which revealed my ring! So it is basically my ring box and it sits on my desk at work now.  Dominick wrote out a letter and had me read that first and then at the end the letter told me to open it and there it was! I turned back around and he was on his knee :] “

Ah! I was so happy to hear how they met one another and how their common love for cars turned into an amazing relationship. Their wedding was held at Wedgwood at Black Forest here in Colorado Springs, CO and it was amazing! The cake is from Nothing Bundt Cakes and did you see the cute cake toppers? Super fun and overall it matches their love and personalities! Check out the vendors as they all did an amazing job! We still have Colorado Wedding Booking dates available if your needing a photographer then I’d love to chat with you. Congratulations to Mr. & Mrs. Tapia! Check out a sneak peek into their colorado wedding gallery.

Evergreen, Colorado Intimate Wedding | Alora and Sterling

Evergreen, Colorado has some amazing views! Prefect location for an Intimate Wedding or even an elopement! Alora and Sterling both realized that our relationship was different very quickly, we just clicked, and despite an interesting start, things were just easy. We have four dogs. 2 French bulldogs, Harvey and Duchess. 1 Rottweiler, Arkose. 1 Corgi, Bella. We have an interesting mix of dogs, and they love them more than anything!!!!!! I asked them also how they decided on having their wedding in Evergreen, CO and they said “Sterling’s mom and brother both live in Denver (he lived there for a good part of his life too). We wanted something small, with family and in the mountains! So it just made sense.”

The weather was perfect super warm and a little bit breezy to help balance that out. You know typical Colorado choosing whatever it decides when it comes to weather. Alora got ready with her closest friends and family, her and Sterling both wrote out their vows surprisingly at the same time! haha. It was so nice working with them and their families. I want all my brides and their families to feel as if i’m simply another family friend there nothing intense, no crazy posing. Just you and your family doing your thing and me photographing your wedding day so you can relive the day!

Here’s what Alora and Sterling had to say about their experience with me, “Shayla photographed our recent wedding, and to say she was amazing is an understatement. We are not from the area, so we did not get a chance to get to know her personally prior to our day. When Shayla arrived we were immediately put at ease. She made our experience so comfortable; it was almost as if she could have been family. We got our album back very quickly and the photographs are stunning. You will not be disappointed!”

Thank you again for having me and many well wishes for you and Sterling!

Sapphire Point Winter Colorado Elopement | Kayla and Austin Dickerson

Austin and Kayla met back in High School. They talked a little bit back then but it was nothing more than that at the time. During Kayla’s freshman year in college they rekindled (little over a year ago). They grew up in a really small town in Florida called “Bushnell.” Everyone knows everyone, our dad’s were actually best friends in school. They attended the high school we went too as well.

“When I saw how beautiful she was on the inside I knew she was the one.” -Austin

“I think I knew Austin was the one fairly quickly. I remember telling my Nana after maybe the 6th date he was the man I was going to marry. Austin is so old fashion, he reminds me so much of my dad. He always picked me up for dates, brought me flowers, and texted me first lol.”- Kayla

Austin took her to a fancy restaurant to propose on July 1st, 2017, but he said he was too shy and couldn’t bring my self to ask her in front of a bunch of people, so as soon as they got home he got on one knee and asked her if she wanted to spend forever with him.

Why did you both decide on Colorado for your destination wedding?

Gosh, I don’t even remember. I just remember saying I wanted to go to Colorado, and I got the crazy idea of having my wedding here. Somehow Austin agreed. Originally, he was all for the traditional wedding setting. Which really isn’t me. I don’t do well with handing stress. I couldn’t imagine throwing some huge wedding and wasting so much money on one, when I could go somewhere new.

Congratulations to Kayla and Austin on your wedding day! They got married at Sapphire Point Overlook all the way from Florida. We even took a trip up the ski life in Breckenridge to get a few shots to end their beautiful winter elopement in Colorado. Thank you so much for having me a part of your day!

ON 4th of July Rick and Lisa tied the knot! Such an amazing wedding day for these two. Lisa giggling from Rick making her laugh and I brought a beautiful American Flag Scarf from Old Navy since Rick is a Veteran. We thought it was a perfect little detail to add to their photo session. Dana and Carlotta | Colorado Mountain Elopement

One of many more Colorado Mountain love stories:

Dana & Carlotta’s love story,

“Our story didn’t look like it would have a happy ending. We met in college, and fell in love over a mutual appreciation of music. We sent each other songs, and lyrics, and CDs, and for a while that bridged the distance of going to schools 4 hours away from each other. But after a few months things fell apart. A little explosively. And that was that, for years to come. Dana dated another girl, Carlotta had a beautiful baby boy and named him Ian. But then in early 2015 we found each other again, with all of the same traits we’d fallen in love with the first time grown deeper, and all of the faults that had fractured us the first time we’d grown out of. And almost two hundred Spotify playlists shared later we got married at sunrise near Long Lake in Colorado, reading our vows off of postcards, just us, our wonderful photographer Shayla, and a pair of moose foraging in the distance. If you’re reading this, know that any and all obstacles can be overcome by two people who love each other and want to make things work. We’re living proof. ” -Carlotta & Dana

Thank you so much for having me be a part of your wedding day and for waking up at the crack of dawn to head into the mountains at Long Lake. 🙂 Ready to schedule your wedding day? Let’s get you scheduled!

Garden of the Gods Anniversary | Andrew and Morgan

Military life and love. You know that there’s times where you can’t control when they relocate, when they will be home.Etc. Etc.

It’s never too late to recreate your wedding day of just the two of you to have wedding images to have for yourselves and to share with your family and friends that weren’t there on the actual day of your wedding. That’s what we did, Morgan contacted me and discussed how her anniversary was coming up and wanted to recreate her wedding day since they didn’t have a big wedding.

Garden of the Gods Anniversary Session.

Of course I was like HECK YES! Let’s do it! We planned on a day but weather was fighting us that day so we pushed it to the week after. Even though we saw some storm clouds that didn’t stop us. We ahead with the session and we went to Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs, CO. It was so beautiful as always, and I knew of a hidden little gem where we wouldn’t be surrounded by tourists.

It was heavenly and calm and quiet. Andrew and Morgan enjoyed they’re time alone together. Being perfectly cute and just in love. After we did part of their session inside of the Garden of the Gods location we headed over to the Mesa Overlook where you can see all of Garden of the Gods & Pikes Peak Views. It was so beautiful, the sunlight was beginning to go down which is every Photographer’s dream because that golden hour light is just beyond perfection. Such a lovely couple and hope to work with them again later this year before the holidays. Enjoy their gallery below friends.

Colorado Springs, Colorado Fall Styled Wedding Photo Shoot

Now that I’ve had some time to get things all back in order. Last year in 2016 I hosted a Stylized photo shoot with our local photographers here in Colorado Springs, CO. I am a part of a Facebook group with many other photographers in the area and the support we get there is amazing, community over competition!

For this photo shoot we went with a fun colorful wedding decor & beautiful wedding bouquets to add some depth to the images. It was in the Fall season and we got lucky on those beautiful fall colors. This Colorado wedding session we had three different married couples & had them dress up in their wedding gowns for fun! It was so much fun learning from one another and helping each other work quickly in a limited time frame before the sun went down. Towards the end of our group colorado springs photo shoot  we had to have some fun and take a group shot of everyone who had helped and take part in such an incredible & fun event!

Enjoy!

Hello 2017 ! | Colorado Springs Photographer

As the 2016 year comes to an end. I have ad the pleasure of living in such a beautiful city. Colorado Springs has been home as long as I can remember and being self employed I got to work with so many amazing people! Whether they were visiting town for a short while, military life had brought them here and also taken them to new homes, or locals that I’ve continued to work with every year is an amazing feeling. You guys are made my year worth while and I don’t know what I would do without you all! Thank you for such an amazing year! I look forward to 2017 and also working on a few small changes to add into the Portrait packages, so keep an eye out for that one!

I always tend to book a few months in advanced for Portraits and then about 6 months to a year for weddings to book in advance! The sooner you know and book the better so you can secure your date and time slot.

Take a look at all of you guys below. Each and every session as helped me grow & I even got to help Fundraise for Fort Carson’s Mountain Post Santa’s Workshop which was one of my favorites for 2016!

Thank you so much & have a safe and Happy New Year!

-Shayla
